OPEC has long recognized the importance of students and young people for the future of the oil and gas industry. That is why the Organization and its Member Countries have continually sought to support educational and training opportunities, and increase the participation of students at the Organization’s international events.

In preparation for the 8th OPEC International Seminar, OPEC has extended an invitation to its Member Countries and its host country of Austria, as well as other consuming countries, to nominate qualified students to attend the Seminar. The goal is to help interested students learn more about the oil industry, and expose them to the issues and challenges facing the global energy markets.

By supporting student participation at the Seminar, OPEC seeks to raise awareness and increase understanding of its goals and objectives among young people in both its Member Countries and in Austria. It further hopes to increase knowledge of the energy industry among young people — and, in the long-term, expand their professional opportunities.

I can describe the experience as a celebration between OPEC Member Countries, non-OPEC countries, producers and consumers, in which the commitment to cooperation was the main protagonist.

The opportunity to listen to in-depth discussions and personally talk with the key figures in the energy industry is unique. With our attendance, OPEC demonstrated its commitment to foster the development of the next generation of industry leaders.
